- Adventure-touring bikes powered by a 500cc, parallel-twin engine

- Compete against the Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT and Kawasaki Versys 650

Benelli has launched its middleweight adventure-touring motorcycles, the TRK 502 and TRK 502X in India at an introductory price of Rs 5 lakhs and Rs 5.40 lakhs (ex-showroom, India) each.

The TRK 502 is touring-friendly and rides on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends with road-biased tyres. Meanwhile, the TRK 502X is more off-road capable as it comes equipped with spoke wheels; 19-inch front and 17-inch at the rear shod with dual-purpose tyres.

Apart from this, both motorcycles share the same platform. Underneath the steel trellis frame is a 500cc, parallel-twin motor that powers the TRK 502 and 502X. This unit produces 47bhp and 45Nm and is mated to a six-speed gearbox. Suspension on both motorcycles is handled by 50mm inverted front forks with 135mm of suspension travel and preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is done by twin 320mm discs upfront and a 260mm disc at the rear with a dual-channel ABS unit. The bikes offer a 20-litre fuel tank capacity. The TRK 502 sports a 800mm seat height whereas the TRK 502X gets a higher 840mm seat height. With a ground clearance of 220mm, the TRK 502X is also 30mm higher than the TRK 502 which has 190mm of clearance.

Braking is done by twin 320mm discs upfront and a 260mm disc at the rear with a dual-channel ABS unit. The TRK 502 offers a 20-litre fuel tank and a seat height of 800mm that should be suitable for most Indians. However, the TRK 502X  sports a 840mm seat height and tips the scales at 235kg which is on the heavier side.

In terms of design, the bikes sport twin LED DRLs and a distinctive beak-like structure and muscular tank shrouds. It sports a split seat setup, small engine sump guard, engine guard and knuckle guards. The TRK 502X further gets a luggage rack and high-mounted exhausts as standard. The bikes are available in three colour options- red, white and grey.

Online bookings for the bikes have begun for a token amount of Rs 10,000. The TRK 502 faces competition from the Kawasaki Versys 650 while the TRK 502X rivals the Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT and SWM Superdual T in India.
