Benelli Leoncino 800: Details Explained

Benelli Leoncino 800 series is available in two variants – Standard and Trail – and it is likely to arrive in the Indian market in 2021. The India launch timeline is not available yet, and while we await an official announcement, here we explain the Benelli Leoncino 800 in detail.

Design

The Benelli Leoncino 800 series debuted at the 2019 EICMA motorcycle show in November last year. Both variants of the Leoncino 800 feature a modern-retro design that is complemented by hardware such as full-LED lighting, a digital instrument cluster, and tubeless-tyre compatible wire-spoke wheels. The Trail variant further benefits from features such as a headlight cowl, tall-set exhaust, and a competition-motorcycle style side number plate. Similar to the existing Leoncino range in the Indian market, the 800 series also features the lion motif on the front fender.

Hardware

The Leoncino 800 series is built around a tubular truss frame, and both motorcycles use adjustable, upside-down front forks and rear mono-shock to perform the shock absorption tasks. The braking setup includes twin discs at the front and a single rotor at the back – both grabbed by Brembo-sourced callipers. The Trail model further benefits from a 19-inch front wheel, knobby-pattern tyres, and a longer suspension travel to enhance its off-roading capabilities.

Engine

Mechanical specifications are identical on both variants. Thus, the Leoncino 800 series is powered by a 754cc, parallel twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, eight-valve, DOHC engine that delivers 80.4bhp at 9,000rpm and 67Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The motor is linked to a six-speed gearbox that benefits from a slipper clutch.

India launch and Prices

The India launch details, as aforementioned, are scarce. The company has confirmed seven models that will arrive with BS6 compliance, and the Leoncino 800 is not mentioned in the list. Once launched, we may see the Leoncino 800 arrive in the Rs 6.5 lakh-7 lakh (ex-showroom) price range.
