Bajaj Pulsar N160SS: What is New?

Bajaj has launched the updated Pulsar N160SS in India, and it is the most feature-packed variant of the Pulsar N160 yet. It gets several electronic riding aids and some much-needed connected features. Here we go over everything new:

New Engine

Powering the Pulsar N160SS is a new 164.5cc single-cylinder four-valve engine producing 18bhp at 9,500rpm and 14.4Nm at 8,000rpm. Compared to the 2-valve engine, this is a bump of 2.5bhp. But the torque is slightly lower, with a reduction of 0.3Nm.

Electronic Throttle and More

One major upgrade is the addition of a ride-by-wire throttle, which enables features such as riding modes. On the Pulsar N160SS, there are four riding modes available: Road, Rain, Sport and Off-Road, each altering the throttle response.

There’s also a traction control system that should help in reducing wheel slip when riding over low-traction surfaces. Lastly, there’s a crawl feature that lets the bike move forward in higher gears at low speeds. This should eliminate the need to keep working the clutch while riding in slow-moving traffic continuously.

New Console and Connected Features

The N160SS features a 5-inch TFT console with smartphone connectivity for call and SMS alerts, as well as Google Maps mirroring for navigation.

The addition of the new console and the full-fledged navigation feature has made the bike feel a lot more premium.

Revised Underpinnings

The Pulsar N160SS also features a revised chassis and the addition of a larger 37mm inverted fork. For reference, the 2-valve variant of the Pulsar N160 features a smaller 33mm inverted fork. The braking hardware has also been changed, with the N160SS featuring a larger 300mm front disc and 230mm rear disc setup.
