Bajaj Platina 110 H-Gear: Five highlights

Bajaj Auto recently updated its commuter segment portfolio with the launch of the Platina 110 H-Gear. The motorcycle sits between the standard Platina 110 and the Discover 110 in the company product range. We have ridden the motorcycle on the streets of Pune. Read about it here. It is available in two variants, drum and disc, and they are priced at Rs 53,376 and Rs 55,373, respectively. Here are the top five highlights of the motorcycle.

H-Gear (five-speed gearbox):

This is the main highlight of the Platina 110 H-Gear, comprising of a five-speed gearbox as opposed to a four-speed unit on the standard Platina 110. The gearbox is likely to have been lifted from the Discover 125 model which features a five-speed unit. The first three gears have been closely spaced for city use while the fourth and fifth cogs are relatively spaced out for highway use.

Frugal 110cc DTS-i motor:

Bajaj’s latest motorcycle draws its power from the company’s tried and tested 110cc motor that does duty in other models too. The air-cooled mill is equipped with Bajaj’s DTS-i technology featuring a twin spark plug for more efficient and peppy performance. In terms of power figures, the motor is capable of churning out 8.5bhp and 9.81Nm.

Anti-Skid Braking (CBS):

The drum brake variant of the Platina 110 H-Gear features a standard Anti-Skid Braking mechanism (Combined Braking System). However, in the case of the disc brake model, Bajaj has devised a mechanical setup instead of a hydraulic design to achieve the same, thereby, saving costs. The mechanism is hidden behind a plastic cowl over the front brake lever.

Semi-digital instrument console:

Bajaj has equipped the motorcycle with a semi-digital instrument console comprising of an analogue speedometer and a digital display on the right. The display consists of a clock, odometer, trip meter and a fuel gauge. It also features a gear position indicator with a gear shift guide comprising of arrows that show the ideal gear to be selected depending on the speed.

Comfortec setup:

Like other Platina models, the H-Gear too gets the Comfortec package for more comfortable riding experience. The bike comes equipped with telescopic forks with 28 per cent more travel while the rear springs have 22 per cent additional travel compared to the older generation Platina models. The motorcycle also gets a softer seat cushion, rubber footpads and directional tyres that further improve the comfort levels.
