Ather to bring electric motorcycles in the next five years

- Could bring in multiple commuter bikes

- Likely to develop electric bikes with 200cc ICE equivalent capacity

- Unlikely to enter the higher capacity segment

Ather Energy could be launching its first electric motorcycle in the next five years according to our sources. The brand is currently involved in developing electric scooters only but would possibly indulge in e-motorcycles too. In a press conference held last year, Ather Energy CEO, Tarun Mehta, also expressed his interest in entering the commuter motorcycle space. However, Ather is likely to target the commuter space only as this is the majorly contributing chunk in terms of sales. 

As of now, the Bengaluru-based brand has two products in its portfolio: 450S and 450X. The Ather 450S is the most affordable model while the 450X remains the top spec with all the bells and whistles. The X trim gets two battery options as well: 2.9kWh and 3.7kWh. The asking price for the 450S is Rs. 1,29,999 whereas the 450X (2.9kWh) and 450X (3.7kWh) are priced at Rs. 1,38,000 and Rs. 1,44,921 (all ex-showroom, Bengaluru) respectively. 

The Indian electric motorcycle market only has a handful of names currently: Revolt RV 400, Tork Kratos, Matter Aera and the Ultraviolette F77.
