7 Best Two-Wheelers To Buy This Diwali

Diwali is the time which both manufacturers and new two-wheeler buyers eagerly look forward to. As the festive season is considered to be an auspicious time for buying new two-wheelers, it automatically sets the cash registers ringing for the manufacturers. However, the zillions of options out there in each segment can put buyers in a fix. To alleviate your confusion, we decided to go ahead and pick out our favourites in each segment. So, go ahead and gift yourself a new two-wheeler!

1. Upto 110cc: Hero Splendor iSmart

Besides being the most fuel efficient motorcycle sold in the country, the Hero Splendor iSmart is also one of the best looking 100cc commuters in the Indian market. The biggest highlight though, has to be the i3S technology which is essentially a start-stop system. This system helps the Splendor iSmart effectively deliver on its main purpose – extract the most out of each drop of fuel. Besides, the Splendor iSmart also benefits from the host of updates that Hero MotoCorp perfected over the last two decades.

2. 110cc to 125cc: Honda Shine

With over 30 lakh units sold, there is a reason why the Honda CB Shine is India’s top-selling 125cc motorcycle – it is efficient, refined and affordable. The 125cc single-cylinder engine might feel underpowered, but it stands true to Honda’s renowned reliability. Honda offers it with alloy wheels, electric start and a disc brake, while the frequent visual updates (read new graphics and paint schemes) ensure that the styling doesn’t get obsolete. A true workhorse, it is perfect for someone who wants a hassle-free and efficient motorcycle.

3. 125cc to 160cc: Suzuki Gixxer

The Suzuki Gixxer recently came out on top when we pitted it against two other premium 150cc motorcycles in the Indian market, proving its all-round capabilities. While its engine capacity might categorise it as a commuter, the Gixxer is much more gifted than what this tag portrays. Great build quality, splendid styling and a well-balanced engine and chassis combination make the Gixxer the pick of its class.

4. 160cc to 300cc: Mahindra Mojo

Mahindra has gone all out when it comes to the Mojo, equipping it with sophisticated suspension, brakes and a cracker of an engine. While its rivals have picked their area of expertise, the Mahindra Mojo offers you a mixed bag of everything. Complete with radical looks, a refined engine and well-balanced riding dynamics, the Mojo is perfect for someone who is looking for a mile muncher with respectable performance. Besides, the Mojo also comes with a very attractive price tag (which will be hiked post the festive season) making it a very lucrative proposition.

5. 300cc to 500cc: Yamaha YZF-R3

Yamaha was quite late in entering the rapidly growing entry-level sportbike segment, though many would accede that the YZF-R3 was worth the wait. The 321cc parallel-twin unit is a cracker of an engine and perfectly complements the chassis. Though ABS isn't available even as an optional extra, it does rank high in terms of technology, and is available at a sweet price point too. The Yamaha YZF-R3 packs enough firepower to keep you entertained and is the ideal stepping stone to the sportbike territory.

6. Scooter Upto 110cc: TVS Jupiter

Since it was launched, the TVS Jupiter has not been given its due because of one plain simple reason – the Honda Activa. Despite being the second most selling scooter in the Indian market, the Jupiter has always been overshadowed by the popularity of the Activa. The Jupiter comes loaded with features and technology like telescopic suspension, alloy wheels, tubeless tyres, pass-by switch and a mobile charging point and that too at a great price point. Though it might not be one of the best-looking scooters around, it fulfils all the needs of a typical scooter owner, and then some more.

7. Scooter Above 110cc: Honda Activa 125

While some might call the Activa 3G an overrated scooter, finding faults in the Honda Activa 125 is a difficult task. Telescopic suspension, front disc brake, CBS, alloy wheels, tubeless tyres and a sprightly engine make the Activa 125 a very delightful scooter. Honda however, does charge a premium for all of this, and with a price tag close to Rs 60,000 (ex-showroom, Mumbai) the Activa 125 is quite an expensive scooter.
