Bajaj Auto witnesses sharp fall in Q1 FY2021

- Witnessed a 70 percent decline in domestic motorcycle sales

- Sold zero units in April 2020 due to nationwide lockdown

- Exports, too, witnessed negative sales performance

Bajaj Auto has shared its sales numbers for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2021. According to the data published by the brand, the company witnessed a 70 percent decline in motorcycle sales in Q1 FY2021 (April-June 2020).

Bajaj Auto sold 185,981 two-wheelers in the domestic market in the first quarter of the current fiscal as against 610,936 units in the corresponding period in the last fiscal year. Exports, too, witnessed negative growth as the company sold 213,948 units in the international markets in Q1 FY2021 as against 471,691 units in Q1 FY2020. It must be noted that the sales were nil for the entire month of April 2020 due to the nationwide lockdown. The Coronavirus pandemic also impacted sales for a large part of May 2020.

During the quarter, Bajaj Auto sold 110,000 units in the budget-commuter segment. The company sold over 32,000 units of the CT range, more than 45,000 units of the Platina series and over 32,000 units of the Pulsar 125. In the premium segment, Bajaj Auto sold over 69,000 units. The sales in the premium segment were heavily dominated by the Pulsar 150 range. The Dominar and the RS200 clocked over 2,500 units sales. KTM and Husqvarna motorcycles recorded over 3,400 units sales.

The country is gradually coming out from the lockdown, and thus the second quarter of FY2021 (July-September 2020) is likely to deliver better numbers.
