Opinion: Honda ADV 150 scooter is a good fit for India

The Honda ADV 150 scooter is possibly one of the most intriguing two-wheelers ever made. It was unveiled last year at the Indonesian International show, making it one of the star attractions of the show. In fact, the internet responses in India were quite amazing and we received a lot of messages and emails asking about the possible launch of this scooter in India. While Honda hasn’t said about its intention of bringing this scooter to India, we think the ADV 150 is a good fit.

Honda Activa 6G Exterior

The ADV 150 concept isn’t new. It was first seen on the X-ADV 750, a large off-roading scooter that changed the way we perceive scooters. Honda decided to use go low down on the displacement and that’s how the ADV 150 was born. Here, we tell you few reasons why the ADV 150 makes sense for India.

Design

Indians have a thing for vehicles that looks stunning. The Honda ADV 150 checks that box. The scooter has big body proportions, have large wheels and the fascia looks quite promising. Then there are things like large windscreen, large seat and the maxi-scooter concept that makes it unique.

Loaded with features

Just like we have a thing for design, we love to have lot of features in our vehicles. The Honda ADV 150 is loaded with that. Things like full-LED instrumentation, two USB ports, keyless ignition and ABS are seen on this scooter. To make the scooter more utilitarian, the scooter gets a whopping 27-litre under seat storage.

Exclusivity

We love to be exclusive. With the ADV 150, Honda can make the exclusivity a bit more affordable. When that happens, a new segment opens up and Honda is known for creating such segments in other markets. Maybe, it is time it starts doing that in India.

Intentions

Recently, Honda sold a few units of the Forza 300 scooters in India. That clearly suggests that Honda has intentions of bringing premium scooters to India. We believe Forza 300 exercise was to test the market and according to my sources in the company, the exercise was successful.

ADV connection

Honda has a strong ADV connection in India, thanks to the presence of the Africa Twin. The country has accepted this ADV really well, making it easier for Honda to communicate this genre to its audience. In fact, expect every Africa Twin owner to purchase the ADV 150 and complete their ADV garage.

Price & Competition

The Vespa SXL149 is the most expensive 150cc scooter in India. It carries a price tag of Rs 1.5 lakh (on-road). This scooter is expensive not because it is loaded with premium parts or features or have a powerful engine. It’s purely due to its premium positioning. Honda, with the ADV 150 scooter if launched will obviously demand a bit more as it is equipped with more modern features along with a liquid-cooled engine. So there’s a good reason for Honda to demand more.
