Yamaha R15 V3-based XSR 155: Details Explained

The Yamaha XSR 155 is a retro-styled motorcycle based on the R15 V3. It is currently sold in South East Asian markets and could make its way to India in the near future. So here we list out all the specs, features, and details of the Yamaha XSR 155.

Styling

The Yamaha XSR 155 has followed the steps of its bigger, retro-styled siblings, the XSR 700 and XSR 900 in terms of design. Built on the same deltabox frame as the R15 V3 and MT-15, it gets a 10.4-litre, well-contoured fuel tank, circular full-LED headlamp, and full-LED tail lamp along with a ribbed, single-piece seat making it one of the most unique-looking motorcycles in the segment.

The bike maker has also paid attention to detail and fitted the XSR 155 with aluminum headlamp brackets, machined bits on the rear section, and a pore-like design on the exhaust that adds to its retro appeal. The XSR 155 is offered in four colour schemes- Premium Grey, White/Red Sports Heritage, Green Wanderlust, and Black Elegance.

Features

Yamaha has left no stone unturned to make the XSR 155 look as retro as possible and has equipped it with a single-pod instrument cluster with a chrome bezel. The blue-backlit LCD unit displays speed, fuel level, odometer, trip, gear position, and clock. However, the most interesting element is the semi-circular layout of the tachometer.

Engine

The XSR 155 uses the same 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology as the R15 V3 and MT-15. This engine produces 18.7bhp at 10,000rpm and 14.7Nm at 8500rpm and is paired to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.

Cycle parts

The motorcycle rides on 17-inch wheels at both ends shod with dual-sport rubber. Suspension duties on the XSR 155 are handled by inverted telescopic forks upfront (similar to international-spec MT-15) and a mono-shock at the rear. Whereas, stopping power comes from disc brake at both ends. While the XSR 155 does not come with ABS as standard, if it does come to India, the motorcycle could offer a single-channel ABS.

Pricing

If Yamaha decides to launch the XSR 155 in India, it is likely to be priced around Rs 1.40 lakh; between the MT-15 and R15 V3. Nevertheless, thanks to its unique appeal, the XSR 155 will not have a direct rival.
