Earlier this month, Royal Enfield had announced its successful transition from BS4 to BS6 emission norms. The two-wheeler manufacturer stated in a press release that it has cleared its complete inventory of BS4 compliant motorcycles and that it will offer only BS6 vehicles from 21 March onwards.
Soon after, the company announced the launch of the BS6 compliant Interceptor 650. The latest iteration of the neo-retro roadster is available at a premium of Rs 8,547 over its predecessor, and the most affordable model is priced at Rs 2,64,919. The most expensive variant of the Interceptor 650, on the other hand, is available at Rs 2,85,951. What else can you buy at a similar price range? We list the alternatives.
Apart from the Interceptor 650, Royal Enfield has also announced the launch of the Continental GT 650 BS6, and the café-racer is available from Rs 2,80,677 onwards. The Continental GT 650 shares its chassis, engine and hardware with the Interceptor 650. Paired to a six-speed transmission, the BS6 compliant 648cc, parallel-twin, air-cooled motor produces 46.8bhp at 7,150rpm and 52Nm at 5,250rpm.
The café-racer, however, comes with sportier ergonomics that are achieved with clip-on style handlebars while the rear cowl further enhances the retro looks of the motorcycle.
KTM 390 Adventure/ 390 Duke / RC 390
KTM offers three products in the near-identical price range as the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. Buyers can opt between the 390 Adventure tourer, the 390 Duke roadster or the RC 390 sports motorcycles. All three models from the Austrian brand use the same engine in the exact same specification. The 373cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine produces 42.3bhp and 37Nm on all three models.
All three bikes use a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch function. The 390 Adventure and 390 Duke further benefit from a bi-directional quickshifter as standard. Moreover, the adventure tourer and the roadster benefit from a Bluetooth-enabled colour-TFT display, which enhances the overall value-for-money proposition of the motorcycles. - 390 Duke: Rs 2,52,928
- RC 390: Rs 2,48,075
While the Apache RR 310 retains the styling of its predecessor, TVS Motor Company gave it a major upgrade in terms of the features. The latest iteration of the flagship TVS product benefits from a ride-by-wire throttle, multiple riding modes and a Bluetooth-enabled colour TFT display with a dedicated smartphone app.
Engine specifications include a 312.2cc reverse inclined, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that produces 33bhp and 27.3Nm. Despite all the features listed above, the Apache RR 310 BS6 commands a relatively affordable price tag of Rs 2,40,000.
