Bajaj Dominar 250 vs Dominar 400: What’s different?

Bajaj Auto has announced the launch of the new Dominar 250. The lower displacement Dominar looks near identical to the Dominar 400, although there are several differences on both motorcycles. Here we list the differences between the newly launched Bajaj Dominar 250 and the Dominar 400.

Styling

Visually, there are very few factors that distinguish the two motorcycles from each other. Both, the Dominar 250 and the Dominar 400 feature muscular styling and come equipped with full-LED lighting, split-style digital display, split seats and twin-barrel exhaust.

The quarter-litre motorcycle, however, gets a box-type swingarm and skinnier tyres than the Dominar 400. Thus, while the Dominar 400 uses 110/70-17 and 150/60-17 tyres at the front and the back respectively, the Dominar 250 uses 100/80-17 and 130/70-17 units. The instrument cluster on the Dominar 250 also misses out on the gear position indicator.

The Vine Black paint is common on both the motorcycles. Apart from Vine Black, the Dominar 250 is also available in Canyon Red. The Dominar 400, on the other hand, gets an Aurora Green paint.

Dimensions

The new Dominar 250 gets the exact same dimensions as the Dominar 400. Thus, the quarter-litre Dominar is 2,156mm long, 836mm wide and 1,112mm tall. The Dominar 250 also features the exact same ground clearance (157mm), wheelbase (1,453mm) and fuel tank capacity (13-litre) as the Dominar 400. In terms of weight, the Dominar 250 is four kilograms lighter than the Dominar 400, and the lower displacement model tips the weighing scale at 180kg.

Engine

The new Dominar 250 gets a 248.77cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC, four-valve engine with twin spark technology that makes 26.6bhp of power and 23.5Nm of torque. Bajaj Auto is yet to announce the specifications of the Dominar BS6. However, leaked documents confirmed that the bigger Dominar model will draw 39.4bhp of power from its 373.27cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC, four-valve motor. Both motorcycles feature a six-speed gearbox that benefits from slipper-clutch.

Cycle Parts

The hardware specifications on both motorcycles include inverted telescopic front forks and preload-adjustable mono-shock. The fork size, however, is different on both models. The Dominar 400 uses 43mm upside-down front forks while the Dominar 250 gets relatively skinnier, 37mm inverted front forks. The suspension travel is identical (135mm front/110mm rear) on both motorcycles.

Anchoring duties on the Dominar 250 are handled by a 300mm disc at the front and a 230mm disc at the rear. In comparison, the Dominar 400 uses 320mm front disc and a 230mm rear rotor. Both models use a dual-channel ABS.
