2018 vs 2020 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V: What’s different?

TVS has recently launched the 2020 edition of its performance street naked, the Apache RTR 200 4V. The motorcycle is now compliant with BS6 emission norms which will be implemented from 1 April 2020. Besides executing the BS6-bound changes in its engine, TVS has updated the motorcycle in various other regards. Here, we take a look at what’s new on the 2020 Apache RTR 200 4V, as compared to its predecessor.

Edgier styling

The Apache 200 already had a sporty and aggressive styling which worked in favour of the brand since the bike’s inception. Nevertheless, TVS has restyled the motorcycle for 2020, giving it an extra dose of sporty character. Firstly, the overall headlamp unit sports a more radical and angular design with larger claw-shaped position lamps. This is complemented by new aerodynamically designed claw mirrors with carbon-fibre like texture along with cushier seats for more comfort. Rounding off the styling changes are new set of graphics which are in line with the sporty theme of the bike.

Added features

The previous model of the Apache was an enticing package when it came to features with things like slipper clutch and a fully-digital instrument cluster showing a host of information. Interestingly, the 2020 model is further desirable thanks to a number of added features.

One of the major updates is the introduction of Glide Through Technology (GTT). As the name suggests, it allows the rider to trundle through traffic without accelerating. It also gets TVS’ Bluetooth-enabled SmartXonnect display which was recently introduced in the carb variant of the previous edition of the bike. However, on the 2020 model, it comes with a new layout and shows more information. The display connects with the rider’s smartphone via Bluetooth and shows data such as call and message notifications, turn-by-turn navigation, race telemetry, lean angle and low fuel warning with assistance to the nearest fuel station. Notably, the headlamps are also LED now, as opposed to the conventional units on its predecessor.

BS6-compliant engine

As we know, fuel-injection is a necessity for BS6 compliance and the Apache already had it as an option. Now that it comes as standard, TVS has tweaked the power and torque curve by increasing the peak RPM and has also added a larger catalytic converter. Talking about the power figures, while it continues to produce 20.2bhp at 8,500rpm, the torque has gone down to 16.8Nm which is 1.3Nm lower than the previous model. Also, it comes in 500rpm latter in the rev band at 7,500rpm. To find out how these changes fare in the real world, you can read our first ride review here

Price hike

TVS has priced the 2020 Apache RTR 200 4V at Rs 1.24 lakhs. This is a premium of around Rs 10,000 over the carbureted Apache 200 with SmartXonnect display which is the most expensive BS4 model.
