Your weekly dose of bike updates: BS6 TVS Apache and Jupiter launch, Husqvarna unveiling and more!

With the BS6 deadline (1 April 2020) inching closer, manufacturers are actively updating their products as per the new emission norms. The latest player to join the league was TVS which launched not one but three BS6 models last week. The two-wheeler industry witnessed more such attention-worthy stories in the week gone by and we recall top five of them.

2020 BS6 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and 160 4V launched

After Hero and Honda, TVS has now launched its BS6-compliant motorcycles, the Apache RTR 200 4V and the Apache RTR 160 4V. The former is priced at Rs 1.24 lakhs while the latter comes in two variants including drum and disc which cost Rs 99,950 and Rs 1.03 lakhs, respectively. With these prices, both bikes demand a premium of around Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 over their BS4 counterparts. Besides the BS6-bound changes on the engine, both the Apache siblings also feature a refreshed styling with a new radical-looking LED headlamp. Interestingly, TVS has also equipped the RTR 200 4V with its Bluetooth-enabled SmartXonnect instrument cluster.

BS6 TVS Jupiter Classic launched

Joining the Apache twins in TVS’ BS6 line-up was the Jupiter, with its Classic version being the first variant to receive the update. The scooter now gets a fuel-injected motor, in place of the carbureted mill. It is the same 109.7cc unit, power figures of which haven’t been revealed yet. TVS has launched the new BS6 Jupiter Classic only in the drum brake variant which costs Rs 67,911. This is a hike of Rs 7,921 over the BS4 (drum) Classic version. Notably, other variants of the scooter including Base, ZX and Grande will receive the BS6 update in a phased manner.

TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Husqvarna Svartpilen 401

Husqvarna Svartpilen and Vitpilen 401 to be unveiled next month

KTM is set to launch the 390 Adventure at the 2019 India Bike Week next month. However, that’s not the only reason to look forward to the event as we will also witness the unveiling of Husqvarna’s 401 twins, the Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401, at the 2019 IBW. While the former is a scrambler-styled model, the latter is a retro-inspired café racer. Both bikes share their steel trellis frame and 373cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor with the KTM 390 Duke. To be sold through KTM’s dealerships in India, the Huskies are likely to be priced between Rs 3-3.2 lakhs.

TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Bajaj Pulsar RS 200

Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 dual-channel ABS to be launched soon

The Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 is currently available only in a single-channel ABS variant in India. However, that is set to be changed as the bike maker will be launching the motorcycle with dual-channel ABS soon. On top of that, we have also obtained the pricing of the motorcycle which will stand at Rs 1,43,016 (ex-showroom, Jaipur). That makes it dearer by Rs 1,402 over the single-channel ABS trim. The motorcycle will remain unchanged in all other aspects until it receives the BS6 update, which is likely to take place close to the 1 April deadline.

TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Interceptor 650 flat tracker

Royal Enfield unveils custom Interceptor 650-based Flat Tracker

Royal Enfield showcased the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650-based custom flat-tracker model at its technical centre in the UK. It sports a quintessential retro flat-tracker styling with minimal body work along with a new frame and swingarm sourced from Harris Performance. Riding on larger 19-inch wheels, the motorcycle incorporates Ohlins monoshock while the front telescopic units remain similar to the standard bike. Interestingly, it is powered by a 750cc powerplant and the displacement hike is courtesy the usage of an S&S big bore kit. Although the motorcycle was a concept, Royal Enfield might also introduce a production model of the same.

(All prices are ex-showroom)
