Suzuki’s DR Big-inspired V-Strom 1050 shows up at 2019 EICMA

- 2020 Suzuki V-Strom 1050 and 1050 XT unveiled at EICMA

- Gets styling inspired by Suzuki’s DR Big ADV of 1980s

- Also features updated engine and electronics

Suzuki had given us a glimpse of the 2020 V-Strom through a teaser last week. While its DR Big-inspired styling had caught everyone’s attention, Suzuki has now revealed the motorcycle at the EICMA clarifying the changes are beyond skin deep. The 2020 V-Strom 1050 gets reworked powerplant and cycle parts along with upgraded electronics.

The new V-Strom harks back to the Suzuki’s iconic ADVs, the DR Big 750 and 800 of the 1980s. It features a square-shaped headlamp, taller windscreen, restyled knuckle guards along with more minimalistic and angular body panels. The motorcycle has been introduced in two variants including a road-biased standard trim and an adventure-oriented XT variant, and both get different colour schemes. While the former gets ‘white and grey’ and ‘grey and black’ colour options, the latter has been introduced in ‘orange and white’ and ‘yellow’ paint schemes.

The new V-Strom 1050 is powered by the same 1037cc, V-twin motor, but the power figures have changed now. Churning out 105bhp and 100Nm, the new ADV generates slightly more power but marginally lesser torque. It gets a six-speed gearbox which now features ride-by wire throttle. Notably, the new powerplant is Euro 5-compliant which signifies it will come as a BS-VI model in India. The updated features list also includes improved traction control system, three riding modes and a new full-colour LCD instrument cluster.

Being the higher-spec variant, the XT trim gets additional equipment such as an engine guard, different hand guards and mirrors, LED indicators, height-adjustable seat and 11-way adjustability for the instrument cluster. The rider aids are also more advance on the XT trim as it gets cornering ABS, hill-hold control and cruise control.

As of now, Suzuki only sells the road-biased standard variant of the bike in India. However, for 2020, the Japanese bike maker could bring both the variants which will be priced substantially higher than the existing model which costs Rs 13.45 lakhs (ex-showroom).
