KTM 790 Duke: What else can you buy?

The KTM 790 Duke is now the Austrian bikemaker’s flagship offering in India. The motorcycle has been launched with a price tag of Rs 8.63 lakhs which puts it in a segment comprising of several other offerings. In case you are contemplating on the similarly priced alternatives over the 790 Duke, here’s what the grid looks like.

Triumph Street Triple 765

The Triumph Street Triple 765 is the closest rival of the 790 Duke in terms of styling and engine capacity. The street naked gets a unique styling with bug-eyed headlamp setup. It is powered by a 765cc, in-line three cylinder, liquid-cooled motor which churns out 111bhp that is 6bhp higher than the 790 Duke. However, at 73Nm, the peak torque is comparatively lower by 13Nm.  As for the pricing, the Street Tripe 765 demands a considerable premium over the KTM at Rs 9.19 lakhs.

Ducati Monster 797

If you want a more affordable street bike from a premium brand, the Ducati Monster 797 makes for an ideal option. Pegged at Rs 8.08 lakhs, it is Rs 55,000 cheaper than the Austrian streetfighter. What you lose out on is an extensive list of features and a comparatively powerful motor as that of the 790 Duke. The Monster 797 runs an 803cc, L-twin, air-cooled engine which makes 74bhp and 68.6Nm. Notably, it does get premium components including KYB suspension setup and Brembo brakes

Ducati Scrambler Full Throttle

If outright street bikes don’t suit your liking and something more versatile is on your wish list, Ducati’s portfolio has the Scrambler Full Throttle. It’s the Monster 797’s Scrambler cousin which is powered by the same 803cc L-twin motor. However, it offers more comfortable ergonomics. While it features traditional Scrambler styling, the Full Throttle gets a café-racer touch with a petite tail and a sportier straight handlebar. Carrying a price tag of Rs 8.92 lakhs, it is around Rs 30,000 expensive over the 790 Duke.

Triumph Street Scrambler

In the genre of Scramblers, Triumph has an offering cheaper than the big KTM in the form of the Street Scrambler. As compared to its rival from Ducati, the bike is more capable in handling varied terrains owing to the presence of spoke wheels and dual-purpose tyres. It also gets a unique styling with a pair of high-set exhaust pipes. Powering the motorcycle is a 900cc, twin-cylinder motor which produces 64bhp and 80Nm. Triumph retails the Street Scrambler at Rs 8.60 lakhs.

Triumph Bonneville T100

On contrary to all the aforementioned options, the Bonneville T100 is a modern-classic touring motorcycle from Triumph. It is adorned with a healthy dose of chrome which evokes a retro appeal while the ergonomics are perfectly suitable for long distance riding. Although it gets the same engine as the Street Scrambler, the motor is tuned differently to suit its character and belts out 54bhp and 80Nm. As for the pricing, the Bonneville T100 can be bought at Rs 8.87 lakhs.
