Honda Activa 125 Old vs New: What's different?

Honda recently launched the new fuel-injected version of its 125cc scooter, the Activa 125, in India. First BS-VI product from the bikemaker, the new Activa 125 is also amongst the very few two-wheelers which already comply with the upcoming emissions norms set to be implemented from 1 April 2020. Interestingly, until then, Honda will continue to sell the carbureted variant as well. We tell you the differences between the new fuel-injected and carbureted versions of the Activa 125.

Engine

Besides the cosmetic and feature upgrades, the major change comes in the form of a new BS-VI-compliant fuel-injected motor. Retaining the displacement of 125cc, the new mill produces 8.1bhp of power which is 0.4bhp less as compared to the carbureted motor’s output. However, the fuel efficiency of the FI version will be better than its carb counterpart.

The new Activa 125 FI also features an ACG starter which is claimed to reduce engine cranking noises while eliminating the need of a starter motor. Subsequently, it also gets an Idling Stop System which shuts the engine automatically after it is left idle for a particular duration. All these features are claimed to deliver better fuel efficiency.

Instrument cluster

Both the models of the Activa 125 get a semi-analogue instrument cluster. However, the new model’s console is a more comprehensive unit at that. Besides displaying the basic information, the updated instrument cluster on the FI trim comprises of fuel range, average fuel efficiency and real-time fuel efficiency. Furthermore, it also gets added tell-tale lights including side stand indicator and a malfunction lamp. What both the consoles of the old and new Activa 125 have in common is a speedometer, clock, trip meter, Edo indicator and Service due indicator.

Features

Honda has raised the convenience factor on the new Activa 125 by adding a bunch of useful features. Now, it gets a front glove box, external fuel filler cap with its opening mechanism integrated within the key fob, and an engine inhibitor which prevents igniting the motor when the side stand is engaged.

Styling

The Activa 125 gets a similar design theme as its 110cc sibling, with subtle changes. The FI version, however, gets more styling tweaks which make it further distinctive. The compact LED headlamp, its surrounding panel and the tail lamp are more angular now while the turn indicators are also bolder than before. Other minor changes include a sharper rear view mirror design, new rear grab rail and inclusion of a chrome strip running across the side panels.

Pricing

Courtesy the host of updates the Activa 125 FI gets, its pricing is considerably higher than its carbureted counterpart. Both the models are available in three trims. The carb version comes in Drum, Drum Alloy and Disc (front) variants which are priced at Rs 60,627, Rs 62,563 and Rs 65,012, respectively. Now, these three variants are renamed to Standard, Alloy and Deluxe for the new FI model which are priced at Rs 67,490, Rs 70,990 and Rs 74,490, respectively. (All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi)
