KTM 790 Duke vs Triumph Street Triple RS- Spec Comparison

KTM will be launching the 790 Duke, its most anticipated offering in India soon. It’s biggest rival in the country as well as internationally is the Triumph Street Triple RS. We see how the two bikes fare against each other in this spec comparison.

Engine

Keeping the design of the bikes a topic for another day, let's get into the engine specs of the two. Powering the KTM 790 Duke is a 799cc, parallel-twin engine that produces 105bhp of power and 86Nm of torque. In comparison, the Triumph Street Triple RS uses a 765cc, inline-three cylinder engine that churns out a higher 121bhp and 77Nm. Both engines come mated to a six-speed gearbox and bi-directional quickshifter. In terms of weight, the Triumph Street Triple RS weighs 166kg dry as opposed to the 790 Duke’s 169kg dry weight.

Features

KTM has equipped the 790 Duke with a full-colour TFT display that is Bluetooth enabled. It also gets electronic rider aids like lean-sensitive traction control, launch control, wheelie control, cornering ABS, four riding modes- Street, Rain, Sport and Track along with a ‘Supermoto’ mode that turns off ABS at the rear wheel. On the other hand, the Street Triple RS also gets a colour TFT instrument cluster along with a traction control system, switchable ABS and four ride modes- Sport, Road, Rain, Rider, and Track.

Cycle Parts

The Triumph Street Triple RS rides on fully-adjustable, 41mm forks upfront sourced from Showa and a fully-adjustable Ohlins monoshock at the rear. Meanwhile, the KTM 790 Duke comes with 43mm forks at the front and a pre-load adjustable monoshock for the rear sourced from WP.

Braking hardware on the Triumph is done by twin 310mm discs held on by Brembo M50 callipers at the front along with 220mm at the rear. Meanwhile, the KTM gets slightly smaller 300mm twin discs for the front wheel and a larger 240mm single disc at the rear.

Pricing

Triumph has pegged the Street Triple RS at Rs 11.13 lakh. And while KTM is yet to reveal the price of the 790 Duke, we expect it to cost around Rs 8.5-9 lakh. This will not only position it lower than the Street Triple RS but also the base Street Triple S which is priced at Rs 9.19 lakh.
