Harley-Davidson LiveWire teased; India launch likely on 27 August

- Harley-Davidson LiveWire uses a 15.5kWh motor

- Offers a range of 225kms on single-charge

- Expected to be priced around Rs 18-20 lakhs

Harley-Davidson is likely to launch the LiveWire in India on 27 August. The company sent out a teaser featuring an ‘electrified’ bar and shield logo along with the launch date.

The LiveWire is Harley’s first electric motorcycle which is currently available in American and European countries. It takes styling inspiration from the company’s Sportster range. The LiveWire gets a full-LED headlamp housed in a uniquely-styled headlamp cowl. The tank also has the Sportster feel but the ‘Revelation’ motor hidden away underneath the cast aluminum frame is what makes the LiveWire so different.

This motor produces 103.5bhp; the most power produced by any Harley yet. Meanwhile, it puts out 116Nm of torque. The Harley-Davidson LiveWire uses a 15.5kWh battery that can be charged in 12.5hrs with the Level 1 charger that comes as standard or the optional Level 3 charger which does it in an hour. On a single charge, the Livewire offers a range of 225kms in the city and 113kms on the highway.

As for features Harley-Davidson has loaded the LiveWire with a Bluetooth-enabled 4.3-inch TFT display. The also incorporates turn-by-turn navigation, shows the exact location of the motorcycle and can also set up a geofence that notifies the user if the motorcycle has gone beyond or entered a pre-set perimeter. Moreover, it gets a six-axis IMU, traction control system and something called a Drag-Torque Slip Control System (DSCS) that modulates torque at the wheel.

Harley-Davidson offers the LiveWire in three colour schemes internationally- lime green, orange and black. The same colours are expected to be made available in India as well. We can expect the Livewire to cost between Rs 18-20 lakhs (ex-showroom). The LiveWire will have an upper hand as the Indian market does not have an electric motorcycle in and around that price range.
