2019 BMW S1000RR teased again; India launch this month

- Gets complete design overhaul and mechanical upgrades

- Weighs 11kgs lighter than its predecessor

- Likely to be launched in India this month

After releasing a teaser image of the 2019 S1000RR in February, BMW Motorrad India has released another teaser image of the motorbike, suggesting the official launch to be held this month.

BMW Motorrad had globally unveiled the new S1000RR during last year’s EICMA show in Milan. With this model, the company has done away quirky asymmetrical front end which now gets a pair of LED projector headlamps. The overall design has been given a complete overhaul making it compact. Beneath the new exteriors, the bike also gets a new aluminium twin spar chassis and a trellis subframe. In terms of features, while the bike already comes packed to the brim, BMW Motorrad has further equipped the S1000RR with new features like colour TFT instrument console, Bluetooth connectivity and navigation, dynamic traction control, hill start assist and Shift Assist Pro.

The 2019 S1000RR is powered by a newly developed 999cc inline four-cylinder motor featuring BMW ShiftCam technology which changes the valve timing and stroke length on the intake side for more accessible power throughout the rev band. The motor is tuned to produce 204bhp of max power at 13,500rpm and 113Nm of peak torque at 11,000rpm. However, transmission continues to be a six-speed constant mesh gearbox. With the new engine, BMW has managed to shave 4kg off the overall weight as compared to the previous engine. Speaking of weight, considering the weight-saving throughout the bike BMW has managed to drop the kerb weight to 197kg which is a good 11kgs lesser than the current outgoing model. Besides this, BMW has also upgraded the suspension with semi-active units.

When launched, expect the 2019 BMW S1000RR to fetch a higher premium considering the cosmetics and mechanical upgrades. In terms of competition, the 2019 S1000RR will lock horns with the Yamaha YZF-R1, Suzuki GSX-R1000, Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade and the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R in India.
