5 highlights of the new Bajaj Avenger 160

Bajaj Auto has made its Avenger Street offering more accessible by introducing the Avenger Street 160. The motorcycle replaces the Avenger Street 180 which will be eventually phased out by the company. If you are planning on getting yourself one, here are the top five highlights of the motorcycle.

Styling

The Avenger Street 160 looks exactly the same as the Avenger Street 180 it replaces. According to the company, the design of the Avenger Street combines ‘cruiser’ and ‘roadster’ design languages to offer a unique style. The motorcycle features flat street control handlebar with a low-slung seat that offers an upright yet comfortable riding stance.

Engine

As the name suggests, the Avenger Street 160 is powered by a 160.3cc oil-cooled single-cylinder mill that has been lifted from the NS160. Despite its smaller displacement, this engine is more efficient and modern compared to the 180cc mill. The motor is capable of churning out 14.8bhp of max power at 8500rpm and 13.5Nm of peak torque at 7000rpm. Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed gearbox.

Single-channel ABS

The Avenger Street 160 is equipped with a disc brake up front and a drum brake for the rear. The system is further fortified by a single-channel ABS unit for the front brake, thereby preventing the wheel from locking up in the case of panic braking. The rear drum brake is also equipped with a similar ABS pulse plate to detect and prevent rear wheel lift in case of heavy braking.

Ground Clearance

The Avenger Street is a low-slung motorcycle with a long wheelbase which makes the underbelly vulnerable to impacts when riding over bad roads. In order to avoid the same, Bajaj has set the ground clearance at 177mm compared to the Avenger Street 180’s 169mm.

Pricing

With the introduction of the Avenger Street 160, Bajaj has been able to make the Avenger brand more accessible to buyers. The Avenger Street 160 carries a sticker price of Rs 82,253 (ex-showroom, Delhi). At that price point, the motorcycle is around Rs 5000 cheaper than the Avenger Street 180.
