2019 Triumph Speed Twin India launch on 24 April

- Powered by a Thruxton R’s 1200cc engine

- Gets three riding modes, ride-by-wire and torque-assisted clutch

- Likely to be priced around Rs 10.5- Rs 11.5 lakhs bracket

After launching the top-spec Tiger 800 XCa in India last month, British bike maker Triumph Motorcycles is now gearing up to launch one more motorcycle on 24 April. Called the Speed Twin, it is a beefier version of the Street Twin that is already on sale in the country.

Poised to be positioned above the Bonneville T120, the Speed Twin follows the same design language as the Street Twin but with more muscular accents. Beginning with the chassis, it borrows the same from the Thruxton R along with its more potent 1200cc parallel-twin unit. The company has lightened the motor by 2.5kg with the use of lightened crankcase covers, magnesium cam covers and a new clutch assembly. The engine has been tuned to produce 96bhp and 112Nm as compared to the 900cc mill on the Street Twin that registers 64bhp and 85Nm. While the Street Twin’s motor comes paired to a five-speed gearbox, the Speed Twin features a six-speed unit.

Triumph will also be offering the Speed Twin with three riding modes (Road, Rain and Sport) besides other features like ride-by-wire, dual-channel ABS and traction control. Other highlights include an integrated full-LED headlamp with LED DRLs and brushed aluminium fenders.

In terms of cycle parts, the Speed Twin comes with 41mm non-adjustable cartridge telescopic forks and a twin-shock setup with pre-load adjustment at the rear. For braking, the motorcycle comes with 305mm dual discs up with 4-piston Brembo calipers and a 220mm single disc at the rear. The motorcycle rides on 17-inch 7-spoke alloy wheels shod with Pirelli Rosso Corsa III tyres.

Expect Triumph to launch the Speed Twin in India around the Rs 10.5- 11.5 lakhs mark ex-showroom. Dealerships have already started accepting bookings for the motorcycle while deliveries are expected to begin towards the end of April or the first week of May.
