Mahindra’s electric scooter, the GenZe has been spotted testing in India. The last time this scooter was spotted was in early 2018.
Like the most of the other two-wheeler makers, Mahindra is also focusing a lot on electric vehicles. The GenZe which has been primarily designed and developed for the US market, could make its way to India as well. But expect it to come with some major aesthetic changes, as the current model looks more utilitarian. In order for the Indian mass to accept a new EV, it needs to sport a great styling and should look more aspirational.
The GenZe revolves around the concept of plug and play. The batteries can be removed with ease and can be taken home for charging. Lack of liquid inside these batteries make it easy to operate them as well. This 1.6kWh Li-ion removable battery, takes around 3.5 hours to charge from zero to 100 per cent. This battery holds enough charge to last up to a little less than 50km. The GenZe has plenty of luggage storage areas making it quite a versatile product. It also gets a colour display screen, GPS, riding modes and smartphone app compatibility.
We are expecting Mahindra to showcase one of their EV concepts in the next 2-3 years. It will take such products to the production online only if the market is ready.
