Tentatively expected to be launched on 21 January, the 2019 edition of the Yamaha FZ S has been spotted undisguised revealing details of the upcoming motorcycle. The FZ S is a popular product in the 150cc-160cc segment contributing to a major share of motorcycle sales for the company. While the motorcycle is due for an ABS update, it also needed a thorough update which is now visible in these spied images.
The 2019 edition of the FZ S receives an all-new LED headlamp with an LED DRL located above it. It gets larger tank extensions with two air-intake scoops on either side, turn indicator repositioned above the headlamp and a revised front mudguard. The body lines are now edgier, giving the new FZ S a sharper appeal while bringing it closer in terms of design to its larger sibling, the FZ25.
While the rear of the motorcycle is not much visible in these images, it seems that it will receive a new covering for the exhaust canister. The new motorcycle will also feature dual-tone colour schemes with matte and glossy textures.
Regarding the addition of ABS, the images only show the front wheel which is equipped with a sensing plate for the ABS sensor. Whether the FZ S will feature only single-channel ABS to keep cost in check or will get dual-channel ABS like the R-15 will only be known at the time of launch.
The 2019 FZ S will continue to be powered by the same 149cc fuel-injected motor producing 13bhp of power and 12.8Nm of torque, coupled to a 5-speed gearbox. Featuring a sturdy diamond-type frame, the motorcycle comes with telescopic forks up front and a monoshock for the rear.
Expect the new FZ S V3.0 ABS to be priced higher than its current retail price owing to the addition of ABS and new styling upgrades. In its segment, the Yamaha’s 150cc street bike competes against the Suzuki Gixxer, Honda CB Hornet 160R, Bajaj Pulsar NS160 and the Hero Xtreme Sports.
