New KTM 1290 Super Adventure spotted testing

- New bodywork with more covering for the engine

- Redesigned windshield with more adjustment like the current model

- Larger TFT screen positioned higher, behind the windscreen

The next generation KTM 1290 Super Adventure has been spotted undergoing testing trials, thus revealing some of the features it will receive over the existing model.

While the test mule was heavily disguised, the larger front fairing highlights the new bodywork extending towards the bottom, covering more of the engine. It also partially covers the frame, a section of the exhaust system and is slightly wider than the current model. Seen up front, the motorcycle featured a larger redesigned windscreen, suggesting better wind deflection. Underneath the windscreen were two large vertical slots indicating lots of height adjustment. The motorcycle had a small single headlamp which was intentionally used to hide the motorcycle’s final appearance. However, the middle line of the fairing above the headlamp did feature a large slit indicating a similar design like the current headlamp arrangement.

Moving to the components, the twin fuel tanks on the test bike seemed to be positioned slightly lower than the current model in a bid to shift the weight lower to further aid handling. The bike also had an extra panel that was bolted onto the rear left side, probably placed to cover a certain component underneath. The rear right side continues to sport the same large exhaust canister as seen on the current model.

The spy pics also reveal a larger TFT screen, positioned higher, right behind the windscreen for better viewing. Moving on, the general ergonomics and seating arrangement are likely to be tweaked for a more comfortable riding experience.

Now, with new Euro 5 emission and safety standards due to come into effect by 2020, the 1290 Super Adventure’s engine will also require changes in order to comply with the upcoming mandate. With engines required to run a leaner air-fuel mixture with 30 per cent lesser emissions, the operating temperatures are bound to go up. To prevent loss in power due to heat, the test motorcycle featured larger radiators for better heat dissipation as compared to the ones seen on the current model. Apart from that, expect KTM to tweak the engine mapping to meet the emission standards without compromising on power.

KTM is likely to reveal the production version of the new 1290 Super Adventure for global markets by 2020. Currently, KTM has no plans of bringing the motorcycle to Indian shores anytime soon.
