Honda has patented the Variable Valve Timing technology for a motorcycle. This tech is likely to make its way to the next generation Fireblade.
As per the patent which was published on 3 January, the company is working on a new VVT system with cam switching technology. This tech is nowadays seen in a few big bikes like the Ducati Diavel and the more recent BMW S1000RR. In this VVT tech, each cylinder is equipped with four valves which in turn receive two dedicated lobes on the cam each. The smoother lobe ensures an optimized output at lower rpms while the more accentuated one increases the valve opening when revolutions peak.
With the tightening emission norms and growing need for more performance, a tech like VVT makes sense for motorcycles. Honda pioneered the VVT when it first launched the VTech system in its cars. In the motorcycling world, Honda is a bit late to the party. Nevertheless, it will hold this new tech. This new technology could be Euro 5 compliant.
