After showcasing the production-ready model of the Livewire at EICMA 2018, Harley-Davidson has now revealed its price for the USA. The American bike maker’s first electric motorcycle will carry a sticker price of USD 29,799 which converts to Rs 20.89 lakhs (excluding taxes and duties) in Indian currency. Deliveries of the motorcycle in the USA are expected to begin in autumn which will be from September 2019 onwards.
Staying true to its concept form that was unveiled in 2014, the Livewire can be considered a radical approach for the brand’s design language. Sporting an aggressive cowl for the round headlamp, an exposed aluminium chassis and a floating tail design gives the Livewire an imposing character. While Harley-Davidson is yet to reveal the specs of the motorcycle, what we do know is that it’ll be powered by a permanent magnet electric motor located at the bottom-most part of the chassis to achieve a low centre of gravity. The battery is sandwiched between the motor and the fuel tank casing giving it a chunky yet sleek look. In terms of performance, Harley-Davidson has quoted that the Livewire will be capable of achieving 0-100 kph in 3.5 seconds and return a range of 110 miles (177km) with urban riding on a full charge.
Other cycle parts on the electric motorcycle include fully-adjustable Showa suspension units at both ends paired with twin discs (front) and a single disc (rear) with Brembo Monobloc calipers. In the electronics department, the Livewire gets ABS, traction control and seven riding modes, of which three can be customised by the rider.
Expect Harley-Davidson to bring the Livewire to Indian shores by early 2020 after its official debut in the international market.
