Here’s the all-new Jawa Standard, a modern classic motorcycle from the iconic Jawa brand resurrected by Classic Legends. Priced at 1.64 lakhs (ex-showroom), the motorcycle is a new competitor in the 300cc segment offering a classic design but with modern technology. That being said, let’s have a closer look at the motorcycle.
When viewed from the side, the Jawa Standard stays true to the classic design of the original Jawa that was sold in the 50s but with a new-age motor and modern amenities.
The headstock of the motorcycle is an instant reminder of the classic Jawa complete with the circular headlamp accompanied by a chrome bezel around it and the horn mounted underneath.
The Jawa comes with a 14-litre fuel tank with beautifully chromed sides sections and a chrome fuel filler cap which looks and feels good apart from maintaining the authenticity.
It gets a reverse sweep speedometer and a fuel gauge marked in old lettering fonts, thus giving it an old school feel. The meter also houses a small digital display for the odometer but misses out on a trip meter.
It gets a 293cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder mill that produces 27bhp and 28Nm. The motor offers good mid-range performance and is comfortable to cruise at 100kmph in top gear.
The motorcycle has a wheelbase of 1369mm, weighs 170kg and comes with an 18-inch wheel up front, which in return surprisingly manages to deliver light and nimble handling.
Up front, the motorcycle gets telescopic forks with 135mm of travel that does a good job at ironing out undulations on the road. Meanwhile, braking is done by a 280mm disc equipped with single-channel ABS.
For the rear, the Jawa Standard comes with twin gas-charged hydraulic shock absorber with 100mm of suspension travel and a 153mm drum brake at the rear to shed speed.
The low seat height of 765mm, slightly rear set footpegs and a marginally raised handlebar position contribute to offer a good balance between comfort and control.
