Suzuki to kill Hayabusa

- Hayabusa can’t be sold in Europe from 1 January

- Will continue to sell in US, India till stock lasts

- New Hayabusa in the making

After 20 year of legendary service, the Suzuki Hayabusa will see the dea- end of the road. This hypersport will no longer be on sale in Europe from 1 January 2019.

The Hayabusa’s 1300cc inline-four cylinder engine doesn’t meet the Euro IV emission norms. The Euro IV policy came into effect on 1 January 2016, but manufacturers were given a two year grace period to clear the unsold stocks. This grace period ends on 31 December, 2018, after which this Suzuki won’t be sold in Europe.

Suzuki will continue to sell the Hayabusa in markets like US and India for some time, but reports suggest not a lot of bikes will be made from its Japan plant next year.  That means the bike could be discontinued in India next year. The Hayabusa has always been the best big bike to buy in India, thanks to the high brand recall it follows. But soon after Suzuki began assembling this bike in India through completely-knocked-down (CKD) route, the sales for the bike almost doubled, thanks to the price cut.

The world knows about the next generation Hayabusa that’s in the works. While Suzuki has managed to keep this project a top-secret, rumours suggest that there will be an increase in engine displacement along with the introduction of supercharger or turbocharger. This bike is expected to be ready in two years. Hopefully, there should be a concept ready to be showcased to the world at 2019 EICMA.
