TVS Ntorq is winning the fight against Honda Grazia

There are two new age 125cc scooters in the market –the Honda Grazia and the TVS Ntorq 125. Both have managed to entice the India buyers with new design and features. But it looks like one of it is losing steam.

The Grazia was launched exactly a year ago, whereas the Ntorq was launched early 2018. Both the scooters targeted the youth of India with modern styling, good features and the usual practicality. But it looks like the Grazia is losing steam, and the reason is the TVS Ntorq 125.

To make things a bit simpler, let’s look at the sales of both the scooters for the last five months (June-October). In June, Honda sold 21,432 units of the Grazia, whereas the TVS sold 17,203 units of the Ntorq. In July, the numbers came down to 17,147 units for the Grazia whereas for the Ntorq, the sales increased to 18,278 units. Things get a bit interesting from August. From August to October, the 125cc sales registered flat growth. During the same duration, the Grazia continued to lose steam. In August and September, Honda sold 15,375 and 13,001 units of the Grazias respectively. In October, the sales of the Grazia were the lowest at 10,779 units. Meanwhile, the TVS Ntorq continued to register strong sales. From August to September, the Grazia lost almost 2374 units, whereas the Ntorq gained 2796 units. It’s the same story from September to October. The Grazia’s sales went down by 2222 units whereas the Ntorq’s went up by 2780 units.

From this data, it’s clear that the TVS Ntorq is eating into Grazia’s sales. In the last five months, the sales of the Grazia were down by almost 50 per cent, whereas the Ntorq grew by around 37 per cent. It looks like the Indian buyers are finding more value with the NTorq. The NTorq is Rs 4581 cheaper than the Grazia but is loaded with more features and technology and is also fun to ride. It is also more powerful than the Grazia. Sporting a full LCD instrument with integrated Bluetooth, there’s more snob value than the Japanese counterpart.

It looks like there is a tough road ahead for the Honda Grazia. Unless Honda comes up with a new plan in the form of some new marketing or product strategy, it might continue to see drop in Grazia sales.
