Norton has released a video teasing what seems to be a scrambler styled motorcycle, likely to be called the Atlas. This name is derived from the original 1963 Norton Atlas which was a 750cc, parallel-twin powered scrambler.
Meanwhile, the new Atlas might be powered by a 650cc, parallel-twin engine that is expected to produces around 70-100bhp. This engine will be housed in a tubular steel trellis frame.
The bike is expected to be available in a dual-purpose and road biased version. Going by the renderings of the bike, the off-road variant is likely to get a high-mudguard, upswept exhaust, knobby tyres, knuckle guards, an engine guard and fly screen. While this variant may sport a 19-inch front wheel to add to its off-road abilities, the road-biased bike will get an 18-inch front wheel.
The Atlas platform is likely to be the base for several other 650cc Norton motorcycles which also includes an Isle of Man TT bike. The British manufacturer is expected to unveil the bike sometime this month. We can expect it to arrive in India and retail in Motoroyale showrooms sometime later next year.
