Indian Motorcycles has taken the wraps off is ‘street-tracker’ motorcycle, the FTR 1200 at the Intermot in Germany.
The bike will be available in two variants; standard and 1200 S. The base version sports an all-black paint job with the engine, wheels and side-mounted twin exhausts finished in black. Meanwhile, the 1200 S gets gold-finished forks with a black/grey and grey/red paint scheme. The 1200 S is also available in a “Race Replica” colour scheme of black and red. The trellis frame and rear monoshock on this version are finished in red.
The FTR 1200 rides on 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels with Dunlop DTR-3 dual-sport tyres for a flat-track motorcycle appeal. The upright handlebars, long tank and rear set foot pegs make for a slightly aggressive riding position. It gets a short tail section with the number plate mounted on the rear mudguard.
The bike gets a full-LED headlamp and tail lamp flanked by LED turn indicators. While the standard bike gets 4-inch analog instrument cluster, the 1200 S sports a Bluetooth-enabled 4.3-inch LCD display. It also gets three ride modes; Sport, Standard and Rain, a traction control system, wheelie control and a lean-sensitive stability control system.
The Indian FTR 1200 is powered by a 1203cc, V-twin engine that produces 120bhp and 115Nm of torque. This unit is mated to a six-speed transmission and slipper clutch with final chain drive. The bike has a 13-litre under-seat fuel tank with a kerb weight of 221kgs. Braking hardware is sourced from Brembo with a 320mm twin discs for the front and a 265mm single disc at the rear. Suspension duties are handled by 43mm inverted front forks and an offset monoshock at the rear.
The standard bike is priced at $12,999 (Rs 9.53 lakhs) while the 1200 S retails for $14,999 (Rs 11 lakhs) in the USA. We can expect Indian Motorcycles to launch the FTR 1200 in India early next year. It competes against the BMW R Nine T Scrambler, Ducati Scrambler 1100 and the upcoming Triumph Scrambler 1200.
