Vespa had first showcased the Electtrica to the world at the 2016 EICMA. Three years on, the scooter will finally enter production next month at Vespa’s Pontedera plant in Italy.
The Electtrica is the Italian scooter manufacturer’s first electric offering. It borrows its design language from the Vespa Primavera, although with a futuristic brushed silver colour and blue highlights. The Electtrica will benefit from a fully-digital instrument display that is Bluetooth enabled. It is also likely to recognize rider patterns and get features like keyless ignition.
Powering the scooter will be a 4 kW motor that produces 5.3bhp and a 20Nm of torque. It will use a 4.2kWh lithium-ion battery that can be fully-charged in four-hours and provide a range of 100kms. Vespa has also equipped the Electtrica with the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) which recharges the battery when braking.
The Vespa Electtrica will first be available in European markets in November. It is expected to be launched in India by early 2019. Once launched, the Vespa Electtrica will compete against the Ather 450 in the country.
