Norton Atlas concept revealed

- 650cc, parallel-twin powered scrambler.

- Sports neo-retro styling.

- Production version to be revealed in November this year.

UK-based manufacturer, Norton has revealed a new 650cc scrambler motorcycle concept called the Atlas.

The bike gets neo-retro styling with minimal bodywork. It gets a high-mudguard, headlight grill, small-fly screen and upswept exhaust to aid its capabilities and boost its appeal. The Atlas also sports dual-purpose tyres with spoke wheels and a sump guard that covers the entire engine belly.

The Norton Atlas will be powered by a 650cc, parallel-twin engine mated to a six-speed gearbox. The manufacturer hasn’t revealed power figures for the bike. Nevertheless, the motor is expected to be offered in three versions; 70bhp, 90bhp and a supercharged version that is expected to produce around 175bhp. The bike in itself is likely to be available in two versions, ‘high’ and ‘low’. While the former is the off-road focused variant with spoke wheels and dual-purpose tyres, the latter is likely to be more road biased. It rides on inverted forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking hardware has been sourced by Brembo, with ABS as standard.

The production version of the Norton Atlas will be unveiled at the 2018 Motorcycle Live show in the UK. It will go on sale by early 2019 in global markets and is likely to arrive in India sometime next year. If launched, the Norton Atlas will go up against the Royal Enfield 650cc twins in the country. However, the Atlas will be positioned as a premium product and will be a lot pricier than these motorcycles.
