Indian Motorcycle has announced a recall in the US for their Chieftain range.
The recall which affects 3,341 motorcycles addresses an issue wherein motorcycles manufactured in 2018, startup on their own. These motorcycles may have faulty right-hand control units which can get corroded over time. In a situation where the motorcycle’s wireless key is anywhere nearby, the bike could trigger the startup process and turn on without external action.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), USA, this not only poses a safety risk but can also cause carbon monoxide poisoning. The manufacturer will replace the controller with a new one if found defective, free of cost.
As for India, there is no official statement from the company about bikes being affected here. However, we recommend visiting an Indian Motorcycle dealership and having your bike checked.
