Yamaha has launched the new YZF-R1 in India. For 2018, the company has given its most advanced production motorcycle a few technological upgrades to make it more competitive in the cut-throat litre-class superbike segment. Here is a photo gallery of the 2018 Yamaha YZF-R1 –
Although the styling is similar to the previous model, the new paint schemes and graphics give the new YZF-R1 a more aggressive look.
One look at the motorcycle makes it clear that aerodynamics has played a major role in designing its shape. The front features dual LED headlamps.
The R1 is built around an aluminium-magnesium Deltabox frame. Although the structure is similar to previous generation model, the chassis significantly lighter.
The aluminium tank and lightweight magnesium wheels further contribute towards weight saving. At 199kg, the new R1 is 5kg lighter than the older model.
The R1 is powered by a 998cc inline-four crossplane crank engine, delivering 200 horsepower. It breathes out through a titanium exhaust system.
The six-speed gearbox gets a bi-directional quickshifter, which allows riders to also adjust the shifts according to performance or relaxed riding.
The R1 rides on 43mm inverted front forks and a rear monoshock, sourced from KYB. Both the suspension parts are fully-adjustable.
The new R1 is available in two paint schemes – blue and black. For now, Yamaha doesn’t have any plans of launching the track-only YZF-R1M in the Indian market.
