Tokyo Motor Show 2017: Kawasaki debuts Ninja 400

The new Kawasaki Ninja 400 has made its debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. A replacement for the Ninja 300, this new supersport model features a slew of new technologies and weight saving measures along with a bigger powerplant.

The Kawasaki Ninja 400 gets an aggressive design language and livery inspired by the flagship Ninja ZX-10R. The headlamp, position lamps and tail lamp get LED units. The instrument cluster has been borrowed from the new Ninja 650. The Kawasaki Ninja 400 is built around a new chassis which is claimed to offer better stability and manoeuvrability than the outgoing model.

At its heart is a 399cc parallel-twin engine churning out 44.8bhp and 38Nm of torque. Despite the additional displacement, the new engine is one kilogram lighter than the older Ninja 300 engine. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission with a slipper clutch. It rides on 41mm telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock. Brake setup has been supplied by Nissin, and ABS is offered as standard. The lighter engine, wheels and a bunch of other weight saving measures has resulted in the Ninja 400 being eight kilograms lighter than its predecessor.

The Ninja 400 is being offered in two paint schemes – black and KRT green. It will go on sale globally in early 2018, although it might be a while before we get hold of it in India.
