Ducati SuperSport- What else can you buy?

Ducati India has launched the SuperSport at Rs 12.08 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike is being positioned as a sport bike for everyday riding and also touring. It directly competes with the Suzuki GSX-S1000F and the Kawasaki Ninja 1000. For the same price tag, you could also consider a number of bikes across various segments. Here is what the grid looks like.

Since the SuperSport can be considered as part-tourer, let us look at bikes in a similar segment - adventure touring. Right from Ducati’s own stables is the Hyperstrada 939. The bike developed for touring and urban commuting uses a 937cc Testastretta L-twin engine that delivers 112bhp and 98Nm of torque. It is priced at Rs 12.19 lakhs. The Triumph Tiger 800 XRx unlike other Tigers is more of a long-distance tourer than an off-roader. It uses a 800cc three-cylinder engine that produces 94bhp and 79Nm and is mated to a six-speed gearbox. The bike is priced at Rs 12.13 lakhs. Another such bike comes from the Japs. The Versys 1000 is Kawasaki’s iteration of a litre-class adventure tourer. The bike uses a 1043cc in-line four engine. This liquid-cooled unit produces 118bhp of power and 101Nm of torque. The Versys 1000 has a price tag of Rs 12.85 lakhs.

The Indian market also offers a host of streetfighters around the Ducati SuperSport price tag. One such bike is the Honda CB1000R, which uses the CBR1000RR Fireblade’s engine, although re-tuned for mid-range performance. This unit is a 999cc in-line four engine that produces 129bhp and 112Nm of power that is mated to a six-speed gearbox. The CB1000R is priced at RS 11.99 lakhs. You could also opt for the Aprilia Shiver 900 priced at Rs 12.95 lakhs. The bike uses a 896cc V-twin engine that produces 92.5bhp and 90Nm of torque. Italian motorcycles are known for their timeless design and the Benelli TNT R is one such example. The bike’s design is a decade old and could still give the young guns a run for their money. The TNT R uses a 1131cc in-line three engine that churns out 155bhp and 120Nm of torque. It is priced at Rs 11.86 lakhs.

Another option in the streetfighter segment is the Triumph Speed Triple. The bike is known for its well-balanced characteristics, making it feel at home on a track as well as the real world. It is powered by a liquid-cooled three-cylinder 1050cc engine, which delivers 133bhp and 111Nm of torque. The bike is priced at Rs 11.63 lakhs. The British manufacturer also offers a modern-classic in the form of the Thruxton R. It is the most expensive of triumph’s modern classic motorcycles. It uses a tubular steel cradle frame that houses a 1200cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, which churns out 96bhp and 112Nm of torque. The Thruxton R is priced at Rs 11.16 lakhs.

You could also opt for American cruisers like the Harley Davidson Street Bob which is priced at Rs 11.13 lakhs. The bike uses modern underpinnings but features the styling of a classic cruiser. It uses a 1.6-litre V-twin unit that produces 65bhp and 124Nm of torque most of which is available at the lower end of the rev range. The engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox and final chain drive. Another such cruiser is the Indian Scout Sixty. It is the most affordable bike in the manufacturer’s line-up at Rs 13.14 lakhs. The Scout Sixty sports a 999cc V-twin petrol mill that produces 78bhp of power and 88Nm of torque. This unit is mated to a five-speed gearbox and final belt drive.
