Australian custom motorcycle manufacturer, Carberry, famous for its 1000cc Royal Enfield motorcycles has launched the same engine in India for a whopping Rs 4.96 lakhs. This ex-factory price excludes the freight, handling and tax rates. The engine can be booked at 50 per cent of the price and deliveries would take place within 4-7 months of placing the order.
The engine will be made in India at Carberry’s Bhilai plant which it set up in February last year. Although the power figures have not yet been revealed, the 1000cc V-twin engine uses two 500cc Royal Enfield engines merged together. It also uses a redesigned crankshaft and crankcase to withstand the increased load and delivery. The redesigned crankcase has a bigger 3.7 litre oil capacity, while the clutch is a seven-plate unit. The complete package will also include a primary chain drive and 5-speed transmission, although the exhaust system is not included, as it is frame-dependant.
The engine is not yet road legal in India, although Carberry is working on it with ARAI before the completely built motorcycles arrive later this year. Currently the engine is sold for export, for existing homologated Carberry motorcycles and for display purposes only. Enthusiasts will surely be overwhelmed on reading this, although practically speaking, at the price of this engine, one could buy two Royal Enfield Classic 500s along with a Classic 350 or Thunderbird 350.
