What else can you buy for the price of the Ducati Scrambler Café Racer?

Ducati has launched the Scrambler Café Racer at Rs 9.32 lakhs (ex-showroom, pan India). Apart from its direct competition, there are a number of bikes from different segments that fit in the similar price range. We take a look at what else you can buy for the price of a Ducati Scrambler Café Racer.

Let’s start with the home team itself which offers two motorcycles in the same price range. One is the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled, another iteration of the Scrambler Icon. The bike features off-roading capabilities with an upgraded suspension setup, motocross-style handlebar, off-road tyres and high mudguard. It uses an 803cc L-Twin motor which produces 75bhp at 8,250rpm and peak torque of 68Nm at 5,750rpm.The Desert Sled is priced at Rs 9.32 lakhs. The other is a streetfighter. The Ducati Monster 821 Dark, priced at Rs 9.72 lakhs. It uses a 821cc L-twin motor which puts out 110bhp at 9,250 rpm and 89Nm of torque at 7,750 rpm.

Also available around the price are streetfighters like the Triumph Street Triple 765, Yamaha MT-09 and the Benelli TNT 899. The Street Triple 765 boasts of a 765cc in-line three engine which produces 111bhp at 11,250 rpm and 73Nm of torque at 10,421 rpm. The bike is priced at Rs 8.84 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Yamaha MT-09 is the only ‘MT’ available in India. The bike uses a 850cc in-line three engine that produces 115bhp at 10,000rpm and peak torque of 87.5Nm at 85000rpm. The MT-09 is priced at Rs 9.91 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The Benelli TNT 899 surely looks like it came out of Steven Spielberg’s famed robot movie series, the Transformers, even though the design is ten years old. . It uses a 898cc in-line three engine that puts out 119bhp at 10,000 rpm and 85Nm at 8,000 rpm. The TNT 899 is priced at Rs 9.61 lakhs (ex-showroom).

If streetfighters seem too aggressive, Harley-Davidson is here to the rescue. The manufacturer has four motorcycles in this price range for a more laid-back ride. On offer is the Harley-Davidson Iron 883, a city cruiser. It uses an 883cc V-twin engine, which produces 50bhp and 69Nm of torque.  The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox and transfers power to the rear wheel via a belt drive. It is priced at Rs 8.39 lakhs (ex-showroom).  Also available is the Forty Eight, also a city cruiser. It features a 1202cc V-twin engine that produces 60bhp at 5,500 rpm and 96Nm at 4,250 rpm. The Forty Eight retails at Rs 9.89 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Both the bikes feature a small 8-litre fuel tank. If you want to opt for a Harley for long distance cruising, there is the 1200 Custom. The bike features a large 17 litre tank, ensuring fewer fuel stops on tours. The chromed 1202cc engine produces 67bhp at 5,680 rpm and 96Nm of torque at 4,250rpm. The bike is priced at Rs 9.66 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The manufacturer also offers the Roadster, a retro styled motorcycle which shares the same engine and output as the Forty Eight but with a more sensible fuel tank. The Roadster’s design is iconic and features a drag-style handlebar. It is priced at Rs 10.09 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Triumph also offers motorcycles that have a modern-classic styling, like the Bonneville T120. Contrary to its classic styling, it features rider aids like ABS, traction control and ride-by-wire throttle. The Bonneville T120 is priced at Rs 9.32 lakhs (ex-showroom). The other modern classic offering from the British manufacturer is the Bonneville Bobber. The single-seater motorcycle has a neo-retro design reminding one of the late 1970s. It has a Rs 9.62 lakhs (ex-showroom) price tag. Both use a 1200cc twin-cylinder engine, although the Bonneville T120 is slightly more powerful. It produces 79bhp and 105Nm of torque as opposed to the 76Nm of power and 106Nm of torque produced by the Bonneville Bobber.

The only litre-class motorcycle in this list is the Kawasaki Ninja 1000. The sport tourer has all the right features at the right price. The Ninja 1000 uses a 1043cc in-line four cylinder engine which produces 140bhp at 9,600 rpm and 111Nm of torque at 8,800 rpm. The bike sports a six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) with traction control, ABS, cornering management and three power modes for different riding conditions. The Ninja 1000 is priced at Rs 9.98 lakhs (ex-showroom)
