Italian scooter brand, Lambretta, has taken its first step towards resurgence with the unveiling of a new scooter – the V-Special. Carrying traditional styling cues in modern underpinnings, the Lambretta V-Special is the brand’s first new scooter in over four decades.
Developed in association with KISKA design house, the V-Special is built around a semi-monocoque chassis. The edgy body lines, fixed front fender and the headlamp hark back to the original Lambretta design. Modern features on the V-Special include LED lights, 12V charger and an LCD instrument panel with Bluetooth connectivity. To improve practicality, it gets two storage compartments and a luggage hook.
The V-Special will be offered in three versions - V50, V125, and V200. As the name suggests, the V50 is powered by a 50cc air-cooled engine that delivers 3.5bhp, good enough to propel it to 45kmph. The V125 is powered by a 10bhp 125cc engine while the V200 is powered by a 12bhp 200cc engine. All three powertrains are four-stroke and Euro-IV compliant. All models use a CVT transmission. While the V50 gets a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear, the other two models get disc brakes at both ends.
Reports suggest that the V-Special is just the tip of iceberg, as the company is expected to bring out fully-electric scooters by next year. Besides, the company is also working on reviving its two iconic models - the GP 200 and the SX 200.
