What else can you buy for the price of a Kawasaki Z900?

India Kawasaki Motors has shaken the competition by launching the base version of the Z900 at an irresistible price of Rs 7.68 lakh (ex-showroom). The ‘base’ variant just comes without the extra add-ons. These accessories only added to the aesthetics of the bike, so you need not worry about missing performance. At the heart of the bike is the same 948cc engine producing 123.3bhp.But for that price range, the market offers many bikes across segments. So, what else can you buy for a Rs 7-8.5 lakh budget?

Well, if you’re looking for a retro styled motorcycle, Triumph offers the Street Twin and the Bonneville T100. While the Street twin looks a bit more modern, the T100 looks like it came right out of the ‘70s. Both the bikes are powered by a 900cc twin cylinder engine producing 54bhp of power at 5900rpm and 80Nm of torque at 3230rpm. They share their engine, which is mated to a five-speed gearbox and drives the rear wheel via a chain. Triumph has equipped both the Street Twin and the Bonneville T100 with modern technology like ABS, traction control, and ride-by-wire throttle system. The Street Twin and Bonneville T100 are priced at Rs 7.02 lakh and Rs 7.95 lakh respectively.

Ducati also offers iconic motorcycles in the form of the Scrambler range. There is the Scrambler Icon, a base version in the range priced at Rs 7.03 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). Inspired by flat track racers, Ducati also offers the Scrambler Full Throttle. Although the design is similar to the standard Icon, the Full Throttle sports a lowered straight handlebar, short front mudguard and a Termignoni exhaust. Another offering, the Scrambler Classic offers the best of both worlds. The bike offers vintage touches giving the feel of a classic bike in a modern package. Both the Classic and Full Throttle are priced at Rs 8.18 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). Now for the Scrambler Urban Enduro. As the name suggests, it gets a distinct personality of a city bike while featuring several off-road elements. The high front mudguard, fork protectors, headlamp grill, skid plate, spoke wheels and the handlebar lend it a rugged character. It is priced at Rs 8.18 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). All the Scramblers are powered by the same 803cc L-twin Desmodromic engine, which delivers 75bhp and 68Nm of torque mated to a six-speed gearbox and final chain drive.

For someone that prefers a city cruiser, Harley Davidson offers the Iron 883 at Rs 8.33 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). As the name suggests, the Iron 883 is powered by an 883cc V-twin engine, which produces 50bhp and 69Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five-speed transmission with power transferred to the rear wheel via a belt drive. Well if you are still not convinced about which on-road bike to buy, there is also an off-beat dirt motorcycle. The Kawasaki KX250F with its 249cc liquid cooled engine is the motorcycle that will get you living on the edge, off the road. It is priced at Rs 7.18 lakh but cannot be ridden on public roads.
