Aprilia Shiver 900 competition check

Aprilia has stirred up the competition in the middle-weight plus bike category in the country with the launch of the Shiver 900. The new motorcycle has been introduced as a replacement to the Shiver 750 which is available in the global market. In India, the new offering from Aprilia competes against the likes of Benelli TNT 899, Kawasaki Z900, Ducati Monster 821 and the Yamaha MT-09.

Powered by 896cc V-twin engine, the Shiver 900 is powered by an 896cc V-twin engine that generates 95.2bhp of maximum power at 8,750rpm and 90Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The power output figures is not exactly impressive in comparison to the Benelli TNT 899, Kawasaki Z900, Ducati Monster 821 and the Yamaha MT-09 which generate 119bhp, 123bhp, 110bhp and 113bhp, respectively. Among the lot, the Shiver 900 and the Monster 821 get traction control as a standard offering. Although, all four bikes get modern electronic features, the Shiver 900 goes a step ahead by offering Bluetooth controlled infotainment system with smartphone connectivity.

Visually, the newly launched Shiver 900 gets the traditional multi-colour theme like its other siblings. The Ducati known for its minimal styling however, continues to impress with its masculine lines. The Kawasaki Z900 looks the most aggressive among the lot and is also the most powerful one in comparison to the other three. The Yamaha MT-09, although powerful, comes with a sober design approach targeted at who appreciate its riding dynamics. The Benelli TNT 899 also does not get an aggressive stance. Instead, the bike maker claims that the motorcycle has been targeted at customers who are on the lookout for good performance at a decent price.

The Benelli TNT 899 is intended for those who need a powerful bike with an attractive price tag. Priced at Rs 9.53 lakhs, this bike is the most affordable one in its segment. On the next rung sits the Ducati Monster 821 which is an impressive performer with adequate electronics, despite having the smallest engine amongst the three. The Monster 821 from Ducati is priced at Rs 9.78 lakh. For enthusiasts who are only seeking performance, we have the Kawasaki Z900 which is the most powerful one of the lot and is priced at Rs 9.99 lakh. The Yamaha MT-09, priced at Rs 11.56 lakhs, is primarily for that non-flashy individual who loves quality alone time with his/her motorcycle away from prying eyes.  The Aprilia is for buyers who love fancy electronics and a trendy themed motorcycle. The Aprilia Shiver 900 is priced at Rs 11.99 lakh.
