Aprilia seems to have tasted a fair bit of success with their SR150 series of 150cc automatic scooters. Now, the SR125 was spotted in India for homologation, hinting at the smaller sibling's launch in our country.
The spyshots of the scooter were taken inside the ARAI facility, where it was taken for homologation for the Indian market. Earlier this 125cc model was spotted at a Piaggio dealership in Bengaluru. It looks similar to the SR150 with dual tone seats, 14-inch alloy wheels and similar features. The international model is underpinned by a tubular steel frame suspended by a telescopic front fork and single sided-coil spring at the rear.
Globally, it is called the Aprilia SR 125 Motard and comes powered by a 124cc engine that produces 9.46bhp of power and maximum torque of 8.2Nm. It comes mated to a CVT transmission. This Indian-spec model is expected to use the 125cc engine from the Vespa series. This motor churns out 9.9bhp and 10.6Nm of torque.
We see that Aprilia wants to expand their SR series of scooters with more models and should bring in the SR125 too. The new 125cc will be a smaller but more efficient version that should appeal to the Indian buyers. We can expect it to be launched at around ₹ 55,000 (ex-showroom Delhi), which will be an interesting proposition given its premium.
