Royal Enfield Continental GT 750 spied on test in India

It is a known fact by now that Royal Enfield is developing a more powerful version of the Continental GT. Likely to be named as the GT 750, this bike was recently spotted on test in Chennai.

The upcoming motorcycle sports a chassis similar to the current Continental GT, but gets an extended sub-frame. This hints at more changes to come in the final production version. One such change, for example, is that the 750 will get clubman handlebars unlike the clip-ons on the current 535 GT. We have seen the bike being tested in Europe last year and this new test mule carries the same components. In fact, we think this is the global spec model as the tachometer has rev counts in single digits, whereas the Indian version gets it in tens digits.

There are many other evident changes like dual exhausts and left side placement of the chain and sprocket to differentiate it from the 535. Look closely and you will notice that the rear turn indicators are placed slightly higher than the current one. Then there’s the top positioning of rear gas charged shock absorbers on this one. We can expect the bike to come equipped with 17-inch spoked wheels shod with a 120section front tyre and a 160 section wheel at the rear.

Powering the GT 750 will be a 750cc twin-cylinder engine. Reports suggest than Royal Enfield plans to use oil-cooling instead of a liquid cooling for this motor. As against the current 535cc mill, the new 750cc unit is expected to produce 45-60bhp of power.

Royal Enfield has not made any announcements about the concrete launch plans of this Continental GT 750 motorcycle. However, since the manufacturer plans to launch a new product every year, it's very likely that this model will be introduced by the end of this year. It will then compete with the Harley Davidson Street 750 and the Triumph Street Twin in the Indian market.
