India’s biggest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, has decided to shrink its product portfolio. The company has pulled the plug on three of its motorcycles and have also taken off from its official website.
The three bikes in question are the Splendor iSmart, the Splendor Pro Classic (Café Racer) and the HF Dawn. While the company had already announced its intention to discontinue the Splendor iSmart after the launch of the iSmart 110, the fate of the Splendor Pro Classic and the HF Dawn were later decided because of its poor sales.
Since its introduction in 2014 Auto Expo, the Splendor Pro Classic didn’t really excite the market with its Café Racer styling, due to which the acceptance level of this motorcycle was quite low. The company still went on to keep this motorcycle in its portfolio, even though its dealers showed little interest in stocking up this bike. The HF Dawn which is the second most affordable Hero in India after the HF Deluxe, saw a decrease in demand in 2016. In December 2016, the bike managed to clock only three digits sales in India.
Honda’s erstwhile partner is closing in on Hero, thanks to the increase in demand for the Activa scooters. Hero’s latest launch, the Glamour, is expected to ring in more sales for the company, which will help it retain its segment leadership.
