Suzuki big bike dealerships have started accepting bookings for the 2017 GSX-R1000, for a token amount of Rs 3 lakh. Featuring a new engine and chassis, the litre-class superbike will be available in two versions, the standard GSX-R1000 and the performance-oriented GSX-R1000R.
The new design language with sleeker bodywork has been shaped by aerodynamics. Under the skin is a 1000cc inline-four engine delivering 197bhp and 117Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed gearbox. The engine gets variable cam-timing system, which has allowed for a torquey top-end without sacrificing the punch in low or mid-range. Suspension setup has been sourced from Showa, while the brake setup consists of a Brembo monobloc front and Nissin rear units.
Electronics on the new GSX-R1000 include a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU), three rider modes, a ten-level traction control system and ABS. The GSX-R1000R gets the same underpinnings and electronics, apart from a slew of upgrades likes Showa balance-free front forks and rear monoshock, a bi-directional quickshifter, launch control, a lightweight top triple clamp and a lightweight battery.
The GSX-R1000 is available in metallic blue and pearl red, while the GSX-R1000R is offered in metallic blue and black. These bikes are expected to cost around Rs 19 lakh and Rs 22 lakh ex-showroom, respectively. Deliveries are expected to commence by the end of May or early June.
