MotoGP: racers to be tested for drinking and racing now

The MotoGP world championship has drug testing as a matter of procedure, but testing for alcohol levels is relatively new. It will follow the drug testing procedure in that the ruling body will screen three riders at random before each round with a breathalyser. If they are found to have a BAC (blood alcohol content) of more than 0.10 grams per litre, further tests will be conducted on them to ascertain the exact amount. The penalty for failure is suspension for up to 18 months.

Interestingly, most countries globally have a BAC limit of 0.05-0.08 grams per litre, beyond which a person is not legally permitted to drive.
