CES 2017: Bosch bags innovation awards for motorcycle technology

Bosch has been a global leader in automotive electronics and has made a mark at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas with a total of four awards for their new motorcycle technologies. The Integrated Connectivity Cluster bagged two awards while the LEAN connectivity unit, a connected safety solution, has been developed in India.

The Integrated Connectivity Cluster is a weather-proof display screen mounted on the handlebar that displays all the required information to the rider under all situations. The best part is that the console pairs with your smartphone and all the necessary smartphone functions can be accessed through a remote control mounted on the handlebar so that you never have to take your hands off the bike. The unit pairs with your smartphone and the helmet receiver via Bluetooth simultaneously.

The ICC detects the information that you may need on the basis of your riding and displays the vitals accordingly. For example, at higher speeds, it will show only the rev counter and the speed along with warning lights only. At lower speeds, it will show you more information like trip computer et al. The brightness and contrast of the cluster varies automatically and the colours adjust to the ambient lighting for maximum visibility without glare.

The LEAN connectivity unit has been developed especially for developing countries in Asia-Pacific region where the two-wheeler population is comparatively higher. The number of road-fatalities involving two-wheelers is much higher and as per their research, the number can be reduced with timely help. The LEAN unit connects to your smartphone and is mounted on the handlebar. In case the unit detects a fall/crash, it immediately notifies the registered emergency contact number with the exact coordinates of the site of the mishap.

In case the rider feels unsafe, the push of the LEAN remote button will notify the emergency contact and will keep beaming the coordinates at regular intervals. The LEAN device can also disallow vehicle access to other users which comes handy in case of theft. You can also authorise other riders to access the vehicle through the app. The LEAN unit has been developed at the BOSCH research and development facility in India.
