KTM 390 Adventure spied again

KTM’s 390 Duke-based adventure bike has once again been spotted testing in Europe. An early prototype, this test mule featured bits and pieces borrowed from the rest of the KTM Adventure range. 

This 390 Adventure prototype’s styling is more in line with the KTM Enduro than the new Adventure range. The long travel suspension, spoke wheels, raised fender, narrow profile and the upswept exhaust make it clear that KTM is developing a serious dual sport bike rather than a road-biased tourer.  However, components like the carbon fibre subframe and aluminium fuel tank won’t make it to the final production model to keep costs in check.

Under the skin is a 373cc single-cylinder engine delivers 43bhp and 35Nm of torque in the 390 Duke, which will be tuned to suit the 390 Adventure’s character. It rides on WP Suspension inverted front forks and a rear monoshock with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels respectively. 

The KTM 390 Adventure will go on sale in early 2018 along with the parallel twin 790 Duke, which means we can expect to see it in flesh at the 2017 EICMA Show in Italy. The market for adventure touring motorcycles in India has been gathering momentum since the launch of the Royal Enfield Himalayan, and we expect the 390 Adventure to be launched here by mid-2018. Apart from the Himalayan, it will also compete with the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 and the BMW G310 GS.
