Triumph eyes 1,400 units sales in 2017

Triumph is aiming to increase its annual sales to 1,400 units in the next financial year. While Triumph had set an optimistic annual target of 2,500 motorcycles during its launch, the current market demand has led to the company revising its target.

Triumph made its entry in the Indian market in November 2013 and has delivered over 3,300 motorcycles till date. While last year’s sales stood at 1,200 units, Triumph has sold 659 motorcycles in the last six months. The company expects this number to touch 1,400 units by the end of this financial year.

Triumph’s current network has 14 dealerships, a number which will grow to 25 by 2020. Triumph currently has 16 models on sale in the Indian market spread over five different segments – modern classics, streetfighters, adventure, cruisers and supersports, helping it cater to a wide range of audience. The local assembly of a few of its middleweight models at its Manesar unit in Haryana has also given it an edge in pricing.

While Triumph had got off to a good start in India, falsely stating the power output for a few of their models led to a fiasco, damaging the company’s reputation. Now though, sales have slowly started picking up pace. With the modern classic range including the Bonneville, Thruxton and Street Twin getting off to a good start, the company is planning to focus its attention on this market space.
